Help with handwriting

A query has been posted in another group by Dennis Ahern. It's about a
letter written in 1861 by an 18-year-old soldier from Massachusetts
from Washington where his regiment had just arrived after a brush with
the rebels in Baltimore the day before.

He has posted it at

and he transcribes it as follows:

letter to the "R" in "Rebels" in Line #8.
2. For the second of the two words in question, compare the first
three letters with the incorrectly...
