  Dual layer DVD question

Author: normanstrong
Date: Sep 3, 2008 15:23

It seems that making dual-layer DVDs is not much more expensive than single
layer ones, since almost all movies now are supplied on dual-layer discs.
My questions are:

1. Why do some dual-layer DVDs change layers when the first layer is full,
and others change layers halfway through? When one burns a dual-layer
DVDR, how does the burning program know where to change layers?

2. Is there a way to burn a different movie on each of the 2 layers, and
direct the player to start with one or the other?

3. If the above is impossible, is there a way to force a layer change at a
specific place in the program?

4. Are there any burning programs that will allow you to make a DVD player
compatible dual-layer disc without closing the session, so that additional
material can be added later?

Thanks,

Norm

GL2 better than the XLs? Consumer grade HDs better than pro-sumer Mini DVs?

I had thought the Canon XLs were of higher quality than
the GL2, but in another discussion group someone said
the GL2's sensor is better because it has a higher resolution,
producing a noticeably better video. Is that true? In another
group someone suggested getting a consumer grade HD
camcorder like a Canon HV20 or 30. They are cheaper
and HD, so what's better about the pro-sumer grade Mini DV
cameras over the consumer grade HD cameras, if anything?

  Canon GL2, XL1, XL1S, or...?

Author: Snooky

I'd like to get a decent camera and learn to make some
documentary type videos. Being a poor boy I'm looking
at older used models. Since I'll be doing some shooting
of lakes and wildlife a strong zoom would be best, so to
begin with I decided on a GL2. But that has no XLR inputs,
so what would be needed to use external mics? Would it be
better to pay a few hundred dollars more for a used XL1?
How much performance difference is there between an XL1
and an XL1S?

Thank you for any advice or suggestions!

DVD Santa 4.5 - How to burn

Author: Tmuldoon
Date: Aug 24, 2008 13:15

Hello,

I made a DVD using DVD Santa - when it was done an option to burn the
DVD came up. I clicked no as I had to do something else. Came back,
there is not burn option after that.

Any way to get it back, or do I just make my own TS_VIDEO folder, dump
them in there and burn?

Thanks,

Tmuldoon

How to convert a VC-1 mkv file to a DVD-Video or a mpeg4 for a standalone DVD player?

Hello!
How to convert a (1920x1080, 19500-20000 Kbps, 23.976 fps) VC-1 mkv
file to a DVD-Video or a mpeg4 for a standalone DVD player?
The 65mb video can be downloaded from
http://rapidshare.com/files/95088346/Planet.Earth.06.Ice.Worlds.2006.HDDVD.Remux...
The ConvertXtoDVD 3 cannot find a decodable video stream in the file.
The topic which shows that nobody knows how to make ConvertXtoDVD 3
find a decodable video stream in the file:

  Erasing a DVD+RW

Author: normanstrong
Date: Aug 15, 2008 08:24

I have several DVD+RW discs that I can't erase; I can't erase them because
the erase program doesn't know it's an RW disc. Apparently, a program can't
erase a disc it doesn't recognize as an eraseable disc. Rather it thinks
the disc is a DVD-ROM.

Is there some program that will wrestle a DVD+RW back to the way it came
from the factory?

Thanks,

What is the "new" GL2 with no lense bullshit?

Author:

I've seen several places that advertise a new Canon GL2
for between $649-$949, like:

http://shopdigitaldirect.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=7668
http://www.thecameraprofessionals.com/prodetails.asp?prodid=281&gclid=CJqX_q-Xhp...

http://photodynasty.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=2292&extra_info=specifications&osCsid...

When I ordered one I was asked what type lense I wanted,
and I said just send the one that comes with it. By then I
was aware that there is some sort of lying going on, because
these places will insist...
