IT WAS the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of
wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it
was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the
season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of
despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we
were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other
way- in short, the period was so far like the present period, that
some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for
good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.
There were a king with a large jaw and a queen with a plain face, on
the throne of England; there were a king with a large jaw and a queen
with a fair face, on the throne of France. In both countries it was
clearer than crystal to the lords of the State preserves of loaves and
fishes, that things in general were settled for ever.

"Estella!"
"I am greatly changed. I wonder you know me."
The freshness of her beauty was indeed gone, but its indescribable
majesty and its indescribable charm remained. Those attractions in it,
I had seen before; what I had never seen before, was the saddened
softened light of the once proud eyes; what I had never felt before,
was the friendly touch of the once insensible hand.
We sat down on a bench that was near, and I said, "After so many
years, it is strange that we should thus meet again, Estella, here
where our first meeting was! Do you often come back?"
"I have never been here since."
"Nor I."
The moon began to rise, and I thought of the placid look at the white
ceiling, which had passed away. The moon began to rise, and I thought
of the pressure on my hand when I had spoken the last words he had
heard on earth.
Estella was the next to break the silence that ensued between us.
"I have very often hoped and intended to come back, but have been
prevented by many circumstances. Poor, poor old place!"

I nominate Daedalus (our ~tinu~ Jade) for the Pierre Salinger
Memorial Hook Line & Sinker Award (HL&S).
In turn, I nominate the denizens of the group alt.atheism for
the Bob Allisat Memorial Hook, Line, and Sinker.
It all started in this thread:
http://snipurl.com/jademarch2008
which continues at 928 posts today. The assertion:
"Atheism is as logically faulty as any religion" - which is
formally true, brought alt.atheism's best and brightest (and not
so bright) out for battle.
I have been left with the impression that alt.atheism is
brimming with faux scientists and born again atheists happy to
gobble on any hook which will give them the opportunity to bash
a Christian or...

you have a math degree and you can't grasp this simple concept?
Wow, just fucking wow.
Even philosophy, which is very very simple given what we're doing
here,
but mostly, this is a simple reverse abstract, and you can't grasp it.
Who told you you could do this?
I had to mark it down, I have just never ever seen any group of men
this dumb.
