2-12 Destiny

First air date Jan 27, 1997

The episode starts out with Xena and Gabrielle looking out over a green
valley. Gabrielle says that the barely seen remains are that of Cirra (the
village where Callisto's parents died). Xena rides out leaving Gabrielle. As
she rides through the remains of the village, she is haunted by flashbacks
of the carnage and fire.

She hurriedly rides away, but when she returns to the spot she left
Gabrielle, only her staff is there. Xena has Argo kick it up to her and she
rides off looking for Gabrielle.

Next we see Gabrielle and some women with their hands tied to a rope over
their heads. They are being held captive by a group of barbarian looking men
dressed in furs with their faces painted. Xena looks down on them from a
tree. One of them, the leader, thinks Xena is The Mistress of the Stars and
asks what their future is. She says it's bad news. Xena jumps down from the
tree and begins to fight them. She throws her Chakram and frees everyone.
She uses Gabrielle's staff then throws it to her and Gabrielle yells to
everyone to run away.

I watched for this and I didn't see the medallion on Callisto, just the
other young girl.

Based on this episode, it seems like they must have been planning to
use the medallion some more. It's very prominent as a symbol. I'm
guessing that they just forgot to go back to this. I like that they
came back to this episode with WFC. Very nice tie back to the theme of
destiny.

I don't think the girl wearing the medallion was the young Callisto. Wasn't
it the one that Xena saves in the "present"? I'll have to go back and
rewatch it to see if young Callisto is also wearing it. That would really be
weird if all 3 of them (M'Lila and the 2 young girls) wore it! I really
expected them to do something more with that medallion thing, but it seems
as if they just dropped it. Do you think in some way that is why Xena tells
Gabrielle that the girl she saved was the only one who could save her?

A few things I noticed:

1) When Nicklio comes out of the building, he bumps into an "icicle" and it
wiggle for a few seconds.

2) How could he tell, just by looking at Xena's face for a second, that she
had extensive internal bleeding and that her internal organs were badly
damaged?
