That's great news that "Alligators" will be shown in the original 90 minute
version although, as I've posted previously, much of the 90 minute version
should have ended up on the cutting room floor.

But love the Season Five DVD artwork! Nice picture of Jim with that awesome
California sunset in the background.

Sorry, just got back from a Gitmo sentence, so I missed your previous
posts on the topic. :-)

Seriously, I've always wondered what possibly could be missing from
the episode, because the syndication version seems so tight. And yet
relaxed enough to allow the usual Rockford moments. So what could be
gone? Hopefully, not more crap with Tony's mom.

What did get cut out?

Note also that Julie Parrish is listed in the episode\'s closing credits,
but doesn\'t appear in the hour-time-slot syndicated version.

Welcome back, Moz! Missed ya, though I haven't been around until recently
either. Hope they didn't use the "waterboarding" torture method on you.

I posted a couple weeks ago that, IMHO, the syndicated version of
"Alligators" is actually BETTER than the original version. This is the only
"Rockford" ep, or any TV ep, where I believe this to be true. Of course,
depends which syndicated version you view, but one that isn't too heavily
edited is actually a nice, tight edit of the original version.

I've seen quite a few "deleted scenes" extras with movie DVDs, and
almost every one of the movies were better without the deleted scenes!
I haven't seen the original 90 minute "Alligator" episode, but I hope
it isn't full of boring crap with Tony's whining mom.

Even the Godfather was better with its editing. While it cleared up
where the canolis came from, it wasn't worth watching Clemenza eating
alone for minutes.

Now, Stripes ... a deleted scene with PJ Soles had fantastic
gratuitous T&A.

I agree that most "deleted scenes" you get with a movie's DVD deserved to
end up on the cutting room floor. I still like them, though, because they
help me understand the movie better and what the director was attempting to
get across.

But we still got to see Clemenza sleeping on the mattress with his fat bare
belly up in the air when they were "going to the mattresses".

Ah Geez, won't forget those scenes anytime soon. Wasn't a young Connie
Selleca one of the female MPs in that movie? A pretty hot pair and Bill
Murray with the spatula.

Yes indeed ... what red-blooded male could argue with that? I checked
her IMDb data and found out that she turned 57 back in July. That fact
certainly startled my memory of that sultry leer I'm sure even Bill
Murray will never forget, but she has a recent photo of herself posted
and still looks mighty fine.

As for TRF, I appreciate reading through such informed commentaries
--
I really do, but I couldn't care less after the 2nd season. I did buy
the 3rd, but kept only two of the discs for certain episodes and
treated the others to just another Polish wedding. It's not because
they lacked entertainment value ... some of the episodes were great,
it's that my respect for its star burned out as fast as he did.

Thank you, you too! I got a waterboarding pass, since they're stocking
up the boards for use on the Republican Guard of Iran. (My God, has
there ever been a government dumb, craven and self-righteous enough to
label another country's entire army as a "terrorist organization"???
Not even Joseph Goebbels would've come up with that one.)
