ANGEL
Season Four, Episode 6: "Spin The Bottle"
(or "I got a fever, and the only prescription is more amnesia!")
Writer: Joss Whedon
Director: Joss Whedon

Some people get on my case when I refer to Joss Whedon Art Projects;
episodes that experiment with slightly or seriously unconventional
storytelling or presentation. Because, you know, it's so, so,
demeaning...

this was in part from a desire to do another wesley doofus show
since wesley as a klutz majes whedon laugh

currently wesley cannot do that
and they dont have a time amchine
so they played spin the bottle

On the JWAP front I just decide to come down on the side that says JW
is smarter than me. Not that I think everything he does is perfect
(Happy Anniversary murders that idea for me), but that if you care to
look there is more to his episodes than the norm.

In "Spin the Bottle" I like the comedy and character exploration
(not to be confused with character development). And since the comedy
mostly works for me it doesn't knock me out of the moment.

This, for me, was the key episode I missed while managing to see most of
the rest out of order. It will probably make more sense to you after
you've finished season 4.

But here's a question for you to ponder in the meantime...

Why did Cordelia smash the bottle?

In the commentary Joss Whedon and Alexis
Denisof say this episode owes its existance to their
desire for the return of dorky slapstick Wesley from
Buffy S3.

I think I can help you there - it's trying to entertain
