With Hagel as a VP this feel more like mischief than making a serious
run. Too much of the Republican base detests Hagel and I suspect he has
little ability to pull votes off the Democratic center even in the
midwest. If Bloomberg could get a Powell or a fairly honest Democrat
(preferably a westerner) like Pineta or (southerner) like Breaux for a
running mate, he could damn near walk into the Whitehouse.

Hagel plays very well to the center. Remember, he wins as a Republican
from NE....no small trick given his views.
