Sorry, but when your people violate the music licensing agreements
Idol has made to the point where that becomes the tipping point of the
banishment of the dad, it's over.
Toss David Archuleta off the show.

This is the most ASININE post you've ever made in the newsgroup! WTH
should David A. be tossed off the show, because his dad is a flipping
moron! The kid can't control his dad's actions and why should he be
responsible for them, and have to suffer because he has a idiot for a
father.
He auditioned for this show, and he's made it this far, and could very
easily win the whole thing, so if his dad wants to continue to act like
a donkey-butt, the kid sure does NOT deserve to be kicked off the show.
That's the most idiotic thing I've ever heard! :-(

My super tinfoil hat wonders if maybe it was a pre-emptive strike against
the other contestants who would have undoubtedly discovered that Archie got
to spend more money on song rights acquisition that week than they did...
If that's not the case, the next question is more elementary.
They can keep Dadchuleta away from backstage, but they can't keep him off
the phone with Archie.
Assuming that the report is legit, and there is nothing nefarious going on
between Dadchuleta and AI TPTB, one way or the other Archie violated the
licensing agreement, undoubtedly at Jeff's behest.
He may have known he was doing something wrong, or he may have simply been
told it had been approved when it wasn't. (The latter being my personal
belief.)

The kid may not be able to control his dad, but he can control
himself. He was the one who went ahead and sang lyrics he was told not
to sing. It was his choice - listen to the producers or listen to his
dad and he chose his dad.
If he gets kicked off for his blatant disregard of the producers
orders, its because of something he himself chose to do. He can't
blame that on daddy, daddy wasn't standing there on the stage and
didn't sing the words. He did.
I don't think he will be kicked off now, it will upset the timing for
the next 3 weeks. But they should make him/his dad pay the fine and if
he does it again, I agree that he should immediately be thrown off..

I respectfully disagree. I'm sure Jeff brought it up during
rehearsals, and that the vocal coach and the band heard the
suggestion. And I'm sure they all knew that the AI PTB said no. How
could they all know, and David be in the room and not know?
Unfortunately I think David was torn between the two and chose to go
with his dad. Although it would be nice to find out that in fact he
was duped by his father and had no idea.

He was told by the producers that he wasn't permitted to sing a certain
verse. He sang it anyway. He went against the producers. This could
easily be cause for disqualification.

They were reported as his fifth and sixth choices. Two he was unable to
get commercial clearance, and two were supposedly rejected by the
producers. No idea why.
