You may be surprised to learn that a Conservative disagrees with this
notion. Attempting to nation-build in that region is a costly mistake. We
have taken out the Hussein regime, it is now time to let the people of that
country sink or swim based on their desire (or lack thereof) to form a
lasting free government. What we SHOULD do is shore up the oil pipelines
with our military might, take a large percentage of that oil as repayment
for getting rid of their dictator and giving them a second chance, and keep
a large self-contained Air Force base in a remote part of the country. We
then use that base to take out the military threat Iran and Syria pose to
the rest of the region.
