Does anyone believe that the race leg would have turned out any differently
if the U-Turn had not been used?
There was no bunching point in this race leg. All of the tasks were
simplistic and short duration tasks. I don't think that there was much of
any opportunity to make up time on this leg of the race, so I think last
place would have still been last place even without the U-Turn.
I wonder if TAR producers really designed a race leg this poorly or if the
rain (we saw it last week) effected some of the predesigned plans and caused
this week's hodgepodge of thrown together challenges to be used instead.

My guess - probably not. The only time a yield seemed to affect things
is when two teams were running close together and one got yielded.

The U-turn could be interesting but was poorly executed by the blonds.
They actually mistook TK & Rachel for Lorena & Jason and penalized the
wrong team. If they had given TK & Rachel the U-turn like they
intended it would have put the last two teams very close together.
I think the U-turn adds more interest than the old Yield but it also
seems like it will be much harder to overcome, leading to a probable
death sentence to any team that receives it.

No, But it was refreshing to have a yield type event and actually eliminate
a team for once.

I prefered this over the Yield. It was different and adds a whole new twist
to the game.
