I don't know exactly how much detail was given to them on their clue. But if
they were told that they had to load up two 50lb logs and travel one mile
with them on a cart, then yes, I think it was a better choice than an
unknown puzzle. They felt they completed it quickly and it appeared that
they completed it quickly so I don't see why you think there was some
"convincing" involved.
Oh wait, I know- it's because they're the BQ's and you're Ken and you've got
these weird little blinders on when it comes to them.

The key words here are 'unknown puzzle'. What if the puzzle had been 5000
pieces? Then, clearly, the logs would have been the smart choice. As it
was, it was just a guess with the fast task once again being the
non-physical one. I swear this whole season was designed with Rob/Amber in
mind. They were always quick to choose whichever task did not require
physical effort and this season, it has seemed like every non-physical task
has been the fast way to go. :-/

They actually did seem to be convincing each other, judging by the
looks on their faces. It was like, "I'm sure we made the right
choice," but with more than a hint of uncertainty about it.
Detour choice has been a really tricky thing in this edition of the
race. While I would have expected them to take the non-physical
option (rather than being the only team to take the physical one),
it's really hard to second-guess the teams too much. As you point
out, they often have little to go on.
But they were convincing themselves. That's why that shot was
included in the episode.

True, but that misses the point. It was not so much "choosing" the
task as it was so close that the time it would take to go by and see
if it was too difficult was negligable. It certainly seemed to be a
factor for all the teams save for Guido, who simply wanted to stay
close to Teri 'n Ian and the BQs who didn't seem interested in at
least checking out the puzzle task first.
