TAR and politics

Do TAR episodes need to be approved by the local governments of teh
country they visit? I can picture a pit stop in Beijing at Tiananmen
square and Phil saying "site of a bloody massacre of student
protesters in 1991". It would be a major cause of concern for the
government seeing as how TAR would be available in the Chinese market
through AXN (by satellite).

I'm sure Production is aware that if they pulled that once they'd never
get government approval to enter the country again. It probably varies
from country to country though. Stricter governments will place more,
well, restrictions on filming.

In this case that you stated above. The Chinese governement showed this
happening live on TV. Its a fact, I am sure if they did not want it
mentioned they would have said something. apparently it never upset them.
TAR has been back to Beijing and Hong Kong since then....

From what I have read... the Chinese Governement was more upset about the
food challenge on Survivor. They thought that would make them look bad.

Even the USA doesn't officially recognize Taiwan as a nation. Of course,
'official recognition' doesn't have much to do with anything (outside of
feeling slighted by the UN, maybe).

The UN does not recognize Taiwan as a country. Silly, isn't it?

Technically, only 23 countries including the Holy See officially recognizes
The Republic Of China on Taiwan as the legitimate government of all of
China. Ironically there are nonstop flights between Taiwan and Vietnam.

If Taiwan could declare official independence with PRC's blessing then it
would have already done so to gain more official recognition so it's walking
this tightrope to appease those Commie bastards.
