Dancing in Africa

Maybe I missed something in the instructions. Why were the teams trying to
learn a dance?

As near as I could tell, the process was:
1. try to learn it.
2. try to perform it.
3. Add your own moves to it.
4. get a 10 minute penalty if you failed.

I would have spent less than 5 seconds attempting to learn/perform, then
taken the 10 minute penalty and been done much quicker than any of those
teams.

The judging was a fiasco anyway. The first team that tried clearly did a
better job than the African American brother/sister combo, yet the judges
ruled otherwise. Aside from letting the African American team through, it
seemed that the dance judges were just there to slow the lead teams and let
the laggards slide through quickly in an effort to tighten up the race.

The judging was the same slack way this time. Two teams got penalized at
the start, but most of the teams were not doing anything remotely close to
the dance or any interesting dance.

The Goth team is the only one that might have 'earned' their pass because
the guy knew how to twirl a baton and that seemed to genuinely thrill the
crowd. They still didn't look like they were doing the 'learned' part of
the dance at all well, but they did have the fabulous stick movements in
their favor.

It was easier cause it was a rigged event.

Rigged? Are you sure? You mean it's not normal to spend ten minutes to
dig about a thousand bucks out of the ground?

That doesn't mean it's rigged. Since there was a weight requirement for
the teams to extract, production certainly would have made sure that
there was at least that much available to be found. It's called
"seeding" and it's pretty common in tourist gold panning.

But I was criticized for believing they would have and advantage in Africa.
Something along the lines of "would somebody from Delaware have an advantage
in California.

Oh, Ken...? Oh, aloo?
