Parents of injured infant expected to accept plea agreement
n Improper supervision carries a $25-$250 fine and up to 30 days in jail.
The parents of the month-old infant whose toes were gnawed off by a family
pet are expected to plead guilty to one count of improper child supervision.
The plea is part of an agreement that calls for Mary and Christopher Hansche
to give up their pets, perform community service and attend parenting
classes, Public Defender Pam Smart said.
The couple is being held at Bossier Parish Maximum Security Facility. They
are scheduled to be in court Jan. 3.
"Improper supervision carries a $25-$250 fine and up to 30 days in jail,"
Smart said. "They've already served about two weeks in jail, so we're hoping
they'll be released soon."
The Hansches initially were charged with child desertion after they woke up
on Dec. 10 and discovered that three of the baby's toes were gnawed off.
Doctors were forced to remove another toe. Initial reports indicated that a
6-week-old pit bull puppy did it, but some have questioned whether it was
the pet ferret.
When asked what the Hansches believe, Smart said, "They are not sure which
one did it. I don't think they know."

Owners Of Dog Shot By Police Call For Training For Officers
Tuesday, Jan 02, 2007 - 05:38 PM
RALEIGH, N.C. -- The owners of a dog shot by Raleigh police on Christmas
night are calling on the city to do a better of training officers.
Right now, the city's Animal Control Department handles animal bite cases,
but not during all hours.
One millimeter closer and Truman the dog may have lost his life on Christmas
night.
The 11-year-old chocolate lab was leashed up on the front stairs when a
Raleigh police officer shot the dog.
Because it was after 5 p.m. on a holiday a police officer, not a trained
animal control officer, responded to a report of another dog at the home
nipping at the dogs owner Meredith Phillips.
"They need to change their laws regarding pets," Phillips said.
The city's animal control unit does not carry guns even though they're part
of the police department.
A Raleigh police spokesman would not allow NBC17 to talk with animal control
unit employees about their policies and training compared with police
officers.

U.K. Murders Expose Drug-Fueled Lives of Prostitutes (Update1)
By Nick Allen and Robin Stringer
Jan. 2 (Bloomberg) -- It's a cold winter night and Lou Matthewson,
dressed in a tiny black skirt, waits for clients on a sidewalk in
London's Brixton neighborhood. When they arrive, she takes them to a
bench behind a tree and charges them for sex.
Matthewson says she got good grades in school and used to work at a
bank. Then, eight years ago, she became hooked on heroin and crack
cocaine. She lost her home, and her son was handed over to foster
parents. Matthewson, 34, remains on the street, even after the murders
of five prostitutes last month in Ipswich, 80 miles (130 kilometers)
northeast of London.
``I definitely don't want to be in this kind of life but can't be what
I was before either, because of what I've seen and done,'' she said.
``Life changes you, doesn't it?''

This crime will never be solved. If we haven't heard anything in the 1st 48
hours it's unlikely anything will ever happen.
Denver and Colorado sure seem to get more than their fair share of weird,
tragic crimes the last decade. All the way from JonBenet to Columbine to
those two therapists who wrapped that 10 year old in a blanket and killed
her. The list goes on and on. Crazy fucking State.
