  Silverjet calls in administrators

Author: Lansbury
Date: May 31, 2008 12:18

Business airline Silverjet has gone into administration after financial
problems forced it to suspend all its flights, leaving passengers stranded.

The cancellations left about 7,000 UK and 2,500 non-UK customers needing to
make alternative plans at short notice.

  Stansted transatlantic jinx strikes again

Author: Roland Perry
Date: May 29, 2008 13:30

Reports suggest that American Airlines is pulling out of the
Stansted-New York route after just nine months. The carrier is
apparently withdrawing daily flights launched last October on July 2nd.

That's a bit sudden! What happens to people with tickets booked more
than a month in advance??

I think this is the third time (unlucky) that a US carrier has come
unstuck operating from Stansted, and that's not including the failed
"Business Class only" operations.

Economy airline Flyglobespan is to be prosecuted after claims it breached
strict safety rules.

The Edinburgh-based firm is accused of allowing a flight from Liverpool to New
York to take off when engine sensors were not working.

The decision to prosecute was made by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Charter Airline Flight timetables and aircraft type?

Author: neila83
Date: May 24, 2008 02:36

Hi everyone,

My first post here, I'm hoping you might be able to help me. I'm
flying on Thomas Cook TCX329k on 25th June to Rhodes from LGW, and
wondered if there was anywhere I could find a timetable that states
what aircraft type will operate it?

I know that the last few weeks from the gatwick movements site that
it's a 757-300, but I haven't been able to find a timetable stating
what it will be the rest of the year. I'd love it if it stays a 753,
the 757 is my favourite aircraft and I haven't been on the -300 yet!

Thanks in advance for any help,

Best regards,

Neil

Cheapest flight out of LHR T5?

Author: adam.montgomery77

Hi,

Looking for a flight from T5, don't care where to, to take advantage
of Tiffany's duty free store. Any ideas? I've checked BA's website
but special offers short haul (something to Edinburgh would be ideal!)
are thin on the ground.

Cheers,
Adam

American to charge for 1st checked bag, cut flights

Author: Lansbury
Date: May 21, 2008 11:25

I know this is for domestic US flights but the idea might well catch on

FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines said Wednesday it plans to charge
passengers $15 for the first checked bag, cut domestic flights and eliminate
possibly thousands of jobs, as it grapples with record-high fuel prices.

Chairman and Chief Executive Gerard J. Arpey didn't specify how many jobs
would be cut, but when asked whether he expected the figure to be in the
thousands he said yes. American, a unit of AMR Corp., employs about 95,000
workers.

American, the nation's largest carrier, said Wednesday the fee for the first
checked bag starts June 15 and that it would raise other fees for services
ranging from reservation help to oversized bags. The other fees will mostly
range from $5 to $50 per service, the airline said.

Meeting someone arriving LHR T3 - time to get through customs?

Author: Traveller
Date: May 21, 2008 09:13

Hi. I'm meeting someone off a UA flight next week; the flight is out
of IAD and scheduled to land at LHR at 0655.

She has checked baggage, and a US passport. Any guesses about when
she *might* be landside (I realise it's likely to be a bit random...)?

TIA

Heathrow T5 boss leaves BAA job

Author: Lansbury
Date: May 13, 2008 12:18

The Heathrow airport boss who oversaw the opening of Terminal 5 is to leave
his job, the airport's owner has said.

Mark Bullock had "chosen to leave" his job as the airport's managing director
because of a change to management roles, according to Spanish-owned BAA.

Last week, MPs said the T5 fiasco had "made a fool out of the country" and
called for an explanation.
