Lately in the evening I've been sitting in the swing on the patio reading,
etc. and about dusk the mosquitos begin visiting me. Do any of those
repellent candles really work? What kind...just one to put on the patio
table...or the torch types? TIA

The only mosquito repellents that work are those containing DEET or
picaridin. The smoky ones are supposed to block mosquitoes' breathing tubes,
but I've never had any luck with them.

Yep..neighbors I've had use them and they do seem to work..
I've been outside watching lightning bugs this week and loving
it..they're late this year but what a show they put on..so far,
mosquitos have left me alone.

Carol, we've had lightning bugs, too. One even followed me into the house.
Thanks for your info.

...you can try those citronella candles/buckets, but if it's a real
problem they aren't going to do much. Cutter makes a hose end spray
that is supposed to chase them off for a month or so, you spray the
lawn and shrubs near where you want the protection...but if it's
really rainy (like down here), they aren't as effective.

...gotta wonder what the smoky ones do to our breathing tubes.

They don't work for me because there's almost always a breeze that's too
strong to let the scent remain.
I recommend Cutter's Advanced spray because it has Picaridin instead of
DEET. Picaridin doesn't damage plastics or other synthetics like DEET does.
Besides, I'm allergic to DEET. Check the label to be sure you get the one
containing Picaridin because Cutter has other products that don't and may
include DEET.
I spray my open palm and then wipe my feet, legs, arms, etc. It works well
for me.
Avon's Skin-So-Soft also worked for me until it was more convenient for me
to buy Cutter's at Wal-Mart than it was to contact the lady who sold Avon
where I used to work.

Thanks, trudogg. Think I'll go shopping and see what's out there.
