Bye, bye AT&T?

After a bout with a minor medical problem, I dipped my toe into the worldnet
groups and learned of AT&T's impending cancellation of worldnet newsgroups.
There seems to be no point of subscribing to worldnet ISP when I get
optonline free. Or am I wrong?

IF you are using or can use a non-att email account, IF you are using or can
use non-att webpages, IF optonline gives you access to the internet, IF
optonline provides newsgroups that you can use to read outside of the WN
firewall, and IF optonline is where you are gonna stay for a while, then you
are right, you really don't need att at all.

I'm keeping WN until the bitter end - whenever that happens, perhaps
sooner than later - because I use the web pages a lot. I've also had
the same email address since I got my first home computer. I'm
sentimental (and lazy) that way. ;-)

That's similar to how I feel... I've had my WN email addresses for as long
as I've had Internet access (I did have email accounts with Prodigy and Juno
before that though). Then I remind myself that almost everyone has the gmail
ones, and that if they don't, they probably aren't that important anyway.

I just have to figure out exactly what I want to do. I saw the
recommendations for LocalNet, and Toast.net, yesterday and took a look...
both have service here, and it costs less than WN. What made WN stand out,
for me, were their newsgroups... take them away, and why stay? This morning
I've been dropped several times... it would appear they don't want me, I
don't usually hang out where I'm not wanted.

It looks like alt.thinkquest is the popular favorite. Now all we need is a
place for images.

Please learn the words to "GSTQ", so you, Ditty and I will be able to go
down with the ship together.

I have already registered "wordswords" on optonline.net, and I have tucked
in several newsgroups. So, when the boiler explodes (don't they always do
that in shipwreck movies?), we will be able to swim over to where the others
are waiting for us.
