What am I holding in my left hand?

No missus - it's not that! Filthy minds some people have...
What it is, is a small tubular object which from time to time I put in
my mouth and breathe in through.
Now calm down, all of you: it isn't glowing at one end and no smoke is
produced.
It was, before I applied a hacksaw to it and removed the ink tube, a
biro pen.
Being roughly the weight and shape of a cigarette, it - almost - fills the
need for the index and middle fingers of my left hand to have something
like this between them, as they had for almost fifty years.
But it doesn't burn holes in my clothes and furniture and carpets,
doesn't fill my lungs with poisonous smoke and it cost me nothing!

A lot of talk here lately about mourning cigarettes and missing them and
being sad and so forth.
Needing some sort of stand-in, or what have you. A good time to repost this,
I think.

Ian, you do whatever makes you happy. I'm all for breaking any and all
habits but I did suck on the end of a ballpoint pen or two during my
quit. Once I figured out it was the deep breathing that made me feel
better, I just did that.

Thanks, Jef., for the reminder. That is one sweet page there in
QuitBuddies which you have loaded with for reinforcement about the
perils of sickerettes. Sadly they are all true.

I do agree with you, Ashley, that the trick to smobriety is deep
breathing, something that smokers do *not* usually do except when they
suck on the poisons in sickerettes. Each time I consciously take a
deep breathe I reinforce the joy I find in smobriety. And it's easy
and something we all can do. There is no practicing needed and *very
hard* to mess up!

I do get in a bit of dailydeep breathing, when I am using the nebulizer; I
breathe more deeply to get the solution further into the lungs.
Incidentally I discovered the other day that the solution I put in the
nebulizer costs around 246 dollars! After the insurance had paid their
share, I had to pay only 48 dollars.

I am right handed. I think we have a few left handed people on the group.
