Someone wrote in the other thread that they didn't think that this
group would be cut. ALL ALT. groups are getting the boot. See below
what Usenet groups will be here: Notice that all ALT groups are
missing.
IMPORTANT: CHANGE IN VERIZON NEWSGROUP SERVICE
On 06/24/2008, Verizon will be modifying its Newsgroup offerings to
only offer groups in the Big-8 Newsgroup hierarchies, which are listed
below. Users will not be able to post or download from any other
newsgroups.
comp.*
humanities.*
misc.*
news.*
rec.*
sci.*
soc.*
talk.*
More information on the Big 8 hierarchies is available at
www.big-8.org.

Where, exactly, is this on VZ's website?
also, how can being subscribed to a ng they don't support mess up their
servers???
They certainly didn't notify customers in any obvious way about the
change -- which I learned about here in one of those evil "alt" groups!
I guess I'll just have to stick to misc. It's too much trouble just now to
do a whole new setup.
I'll miss some of you guys!

I wondered that too. They mentioned some changes a while back but I don't
remember seeing that specifically. I too am likely not to come here any
more if I can't get it through them.

bj,
I have not seen your message here yet, but my husband showed me your
question on his giganews which is in the process of getting set up and
then will set me up.
He did not find it on the verizon website. He found it posted in
another group. The actual announcement that I found can be found at
0.verizon.announce (that is zero.verizon.announce not OH)

Missed this the first go round
I answered it on Julies "ping" and in the first thread -- I didn't see
this post until after that of course
I hope you find a way back here because I will miss seeing you if you
don't.

It takes about 3 minutes to set up an entire new account for news through
OE. I switched to individual news - a measly $15 per year (US $$$).
Subscribing to that and paying plus setting up the account wouldn't have
taken me more than 10 minutes max.

Doesn't giganews cost money? Looked to me like it was free for only three
months.
