Question please, which meds are fast/easy to get over or off of and which
are not? long/painful, thanks for the recap, I believe I remember methadone
on very bad about coming off of and that ms-contin isn't a picnic either so
how about oxy? codone and contin thanks, there was a lawsuit over how
addicting oxy is or was not to long ago but I didn't see how severe the
withdrawal or length of time it took get out of your system if that was even
part of the suit, anyway, as always, many thanks well in advance...Joe

joe
this is really two separate question/issues
speaking only in broad generalities [diff. due to length patient has
been taking a specific drug, as well as dosage], when you look at
half-life and serum levels, the 'physical' withdrawal after last dose
would be about:
meperidine (demerol): 8-12 hours/4-5 days
heroin: 36-72 hours/7-10 days
hydromorphone (dilaudid): 36-72 hours/7-10 days
codeine: 36-72 hours/7-10 days
hydrocodone (vicoden): 36-72 hours/7-10 days
oxycodone (oxycontin): 36-72 hours/7-10 days
BUT
my experience is that for anyone who has been on long term maint,
titration should be no greater than a 10%% drop at each level, and
proceed more slowly than the above indicates until total system
clearing is acheived - there can be a real danger of seizure otherwise.
my experiance is to take about 3-4 weeks minimum.

Don't get that fed up again. Get logical, bring your wife in on it to
express yourself, but don't go sliding in to that cold turkey
dinner,.please.

What I'm doing is trying to take the least less violent route till things
get straightened out at the generic end of things cuz the way it's gone for
me the past 6 months looks like another 6 months absolute and I'm thinking
of the lightest way off should I get totally fed up with the BS that's being
pushed on pain people in my area, it seems the only thing to do to stop my
distrust of allmost everything now, It looks better this way and I refuse to
loose my memory again, that now has had lasting effects after 3 bouts with
generic meds, I just can't do this again, it's to much really so if I can
figure out the lightest effect via med maybe I'll just let go till the
system and doctors get there shit together hopefully soon, many thanks for
ALL your info, it is apprecited very much...

G, I may very well be forced to go the ER route with my forgetting my many
bad teeth over the years and AMOXICILLIN taken at least a doz times I think?
cleaning those infections now after 10 days and 30/500mg it just didn't kill
this one off completely that I received at the ER 2 weeks ago waiting 6
hours for a ct scan for a possible blood clot, eh, thank you very much ER, a
guy puked up a lung for 6 solid hours while in a misting mach gurgling away
right beside me, I had 5 or 6 clots back 30 years ago so they thought my
lupus flair might have been one, either way if you know how my type lupus
works it's your body attacking itself and add in an extra infection and it
just cannot be stopped, held at bay by weak antibiotiocs but not stopped or
killed which is where I am now in very...

I can only add to the very thoughtful and seemingly correct
information here is that I found that watch out for Methadone as a
"get-off" assistance. I took Methadone as part of a way to get off
OxyC and that worked with awful but fairly short bout of withdrawal.
But then when it came time to get off Methadone I had the mother-of-
all withdrawal. It would have been less frightening is someone had
told me I was going to get the kickers with taper off and ending
Methadone, but I was never told. What was worse is that it sounded
like my doctor never knew I was going to get such a reaction! She
didn't know?????
But I also agree about the lack of understanding about pain with most
doctors. I am convinced that even when they say they understand, they
don't. I found that my medical doctor is just fine with giving me as
much depression meds which comes with the pain, but he is
"uncomfortable" about talking Fentynal, or OxyC, or any med for pain.
They don't know what "uncomfortable" means...

I have been on Norco, 6X a day, give or take two tablets for almost two
years
now, I am getting to a point where the last two months I have not been able
to
take any medication holidays, I wonder how difficult the withdrawl from
hydrocodone
will be.
Just because it is a schedule III and not II does not, in my mind mean it
will be easier.
Any thoughts are appreciated

Dear Joe,
Amoxicillin is great for tooth infections, but with all you have going on
they have a lot broader spectrum antibiotics that your body hasn't
(hopefully) become immune to that they can hit infections with. Keflex,
zithromyicin and I wonder since they never use it any more, if pulling out
good old penicillin may not beat the bug. Only drug I can recall better than
Amoxicillin for dental abscesses.
If you're having trouble keeping pain meds down, you can patch it unless you
have a fever. Otherwise you are looking at a back door answer. Dilaudid
still comes in a suppository, I don't know how they could accuse you of
adulterating in order for use in some other intake route, (not that it would
stop such thought from crossing their tiny one track minds) but it would
keep W/D away.
Hang tough, bro--og

Dear Joe,
I'm sure it doesn't help, but it appears to be a trend, at least from what I
am seeing. The competent becoming incompetent, the caring not giving a fuck,
and scared down to their nuts.
Something in the...
