Knee trouble back and it is agonizing!

I've had arthritis for years, but recently, a new joint has jumped into
the act and has completely left me crippled. I can't even drive my
darned car, cuz I have one w/a clutch and I can't be bending my left leg!

This started out as a total NON INJURY issue a month or two before Xmas,
and while it flared some, by Xmas it had dissipated almost completely,
but I decided to do some Xmas shopping and just the 2 hrs that I was in
the mall, I messed my knee up bad. I was barely able to get back to my
car. By the next day, my knee was even worse and now just getting
around my home is a trial. My pain doc called it "housemaid's knee"
which is funny since I'm neither the type to get down on my knees to
clean floors or for any otehr reason! All I know is that it hurts like
crazy and leaves me in serious pain just for getting up to get something
to drink out of the refridgerator!

I called my Primary Doc/Pain Doc and he called in an x-ray for the knee
and also gave me a referral to an ortho, something I've been wanting for
a few yrs. now! I had the x-ray taken this morning and made an appt.
w/the orthopod for Monday.

Dear LC,

You scared the crap out of me. I read "new joint" and thought "no way, not
after all the replacement horror stories". I'm glad that's cleared up.
Toni hit it on the head- elevation as much as possible...

My reply to what LooseCannon had to say:

Opiates don't help my osteo arthritic knees at all, but anti-inflamatory
meds like ibuprofen in doses of 800mg do help some. I hate taking the
ibuprofen, but it's the only thing that helps. The cold temperature has
played havoc with my knees, it happens every winter.

My reply to what I M Hurting had to say:

Thank you! The pain can be extreme at times. My x-rays show several spurs
and one spur is broken off and floating in my left knee. My PCP wants me to
go to an ortho and see about getting them taken care of, but I don't want to
undergo another surgery. It's getting to the point that I may not be able
to put it off much longer. I will see if my PCP will let me try this option
first. Thanks again!

My reply to what lhamo55 had to say:

Yes, this is me. This is fabulous information. Thank you so much. I will
also take this info to my pain doc next month. I would like to stop taking
and using so many opiates, it's been over 7 years now and even though I
don't have any negative side effects, I would like to see if there isn't
something else that would help with my issues. Thank you so much for your
info.
