how about some help?

I've noticed that if you don't want to take or talk about narcotics, no one
is gonna pay attention to you in this group.

I was thrilled when I found this place and now I'm making enemies on my 3rd
post, but OH WELL.

Has anyone tried alternatives to drugs?

There's a spinal shot my dr. told me about that kills the nerves in the area
that they think the pain is coming from. Does anyone know what I'm talking
about? Tried it? Any success?

I've read some of you have tried the spinal stimulator. What are your
conclusions?

I'm NOT against narcotics. I just have too many side affects that prevent
me from living my life the way I need to.

I STILL haven't given up that there's something out there that can help me.

The other side of this is that my pain doc. is pissed at me and making my
life miserable. Yes, I am looking for a new pain doc., but I'm afraid they
won't want to treat me because of what's been said in my file.

Grin, we are probably reading other threads. I do not read all of them
here.

Hey, be easy on yourself. I'm new here too.
> Has anyone tried alternatives to drugs?

Yes and no. Sometimes, I really *need* them to be able to work at all.
Recognition of the facts makes me say I am no longer a TAB. I have passed
the time for that. (TAB is an old term that stood for 'Temporarily Abled
Body' and when used right meant 'there but for the grace of God go I').

I am however still functional for the most part. What I have is chronic
back pain caused by degeneative disc disease with 3 herniated discs. What I
use in place of drugs fairly often is a combination of things that make my
soul smile and reduce the pain to what works for me.

Thank you cshenk for taking the time to respond.

My pain doc. is big on the steroid shots (epidurals and facets) - I've had
at least 6 sets of 3 over the last couple years. NONE of them helped AT
ALL. OK, that is a lie, one helped for one day. I felt *normal* for one
day. But, she could never recreate that again.

The thing she mentioned one time might be called a block. She said
something about it killing the nerves and that would stop the pain. But, I
would like more info on that before I tried it... Especially since they
haven't exactly figured out where the pain is coming from. Possibly S1, but
they're not positive based on the epidurals.

I'm not going to stop going to a pain doc (it's time to find a new one), but
I was wondering about acupuncture or other realllllly alternative methods...
No, I'm not a nut - just desperate.

Most welcome! I may not be all that helpful for ya, but sometimes just
having someone to talk to who can appreciate your stance, is a good thing.

There's 2 guys at work who have had them. One said it worked really well
for 3 months then got lesser effects. Another was like you.

I'd want to know more too. If it kills the pain, what else does it kill for
example?

Yay Gigz!
Thanks for saying all that!
The only things I would add are, Hi & Welcome, Kathy! & CShenk too &
any newbies I may have missed!
I've been away from my home (ascp or "here") a lot lately as I have
been living at PainReliefNetwork.org so I don't post nearly as often
as I used to here. I've been known (g) to make sure no post goes
unanswered...unless it's a troll or something I know will get me mad
(tho I may post to that last anyway! weg)! So I would've said hi
sooner.

The thing about ascp I believe (& this is just my opinion jmo) is that
most of us who've been here a long time (me 10yrs?? maybe?) have
ALREADY TRIED PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING AVAILABLE...so we may have a lot
of info to share about side effects, good or bad results, etc, & they
may vary as much as each individual does.

Personally, I have chronic myofascial disease/fibromyalgia/bi-lateral
neuropathy both feet & legs (& that's a real killer pain, enhanced by
the fms/etc.)/spinal stenosis/degenerative disc disease (throughout...

Hi again!
LoL, knew i forgot somethin'!!!
The other thing that did work for me, tho it depends on what's wrong &
age & all kinds of stuff & still no promises & will read mostly
nightmare failure stories about it...BACK SURGERY. Tell ya, I went
thru a pain clinic, they weaned me off all meds 25yrs ago...taught me
all the other methods to "just live w/it". Well, those creeps!!! I
finally found out what was goin' on & had a 3level laminectomy-3nerves
decompressed back surgery which WORKED!! ABSOLUTELY NO PAIN
IMMEDIATELY AFTER SURGERY...except for the permanent sciatic.& the
surgical pain. I was 37 or so. They have Much Better Methods to do
the surgery now...laser, etc. Mine they just opened up, sucked out,
replaced, drilled to make more room & sewed me back up!!! Took about
a 6 or 7mos...

Hi LoriB!

I love my rice bags! It's not just the gentle warmth they bring which
loosens things up with out medication, but the nice aroma (they are basmati
filled) and the fact that a friend made them for me.

Dear Kathy,

Don't feel that way, you aren't making any enemies in here and it's not
mandatory to respond to anyone who gives you a hard way to go. There is
just, as you are no doubt aware, lots going on with narcotics...
