Well ... Yes, they survived.
No horrible genetic diseases wiped them out over the several hundred
years involved, as some would postulate. Even the color-blindness,
instead of saturating the population, remains at only 5%% to 10%% of the
population ... and isn't considered that much of a disability even so,
or it would have been bred out by now.
None of the "expected" horrors of "two headed babies" or similar
bullshit. In fact, the population is comparatively healthy.
