  Prayers for those without power

Author: jofirey

There are still an awful lot of people in California and Nevada without
power.

I'm hoping M. and her girls aren't among them. M. would be about my first
choice of people to be with in a power outage. Both for her coping skills
and ability to make it interesting. But I know those little girls have had
quite enough of the storms by now. And are probably pretty homesick as
well.

I did get a kick out of one assisted living residence gal. They only have
generators for the lobby and office areas and are heating with the
fireplaces, etc. She showed up in the office with her toaster and a loaf of
bread and butter and they've been making toast while they wait for either
power or transportation.

But many won't have power before Monday and have been without since early
Friday. Its cold and its raining. So remember them in your prayers. As
well as the repair crews that are out in this mess doing dangerous work to
get things going again.

  I'm home

Hi everyone! I'm home again but in a great deal of pain. The surgeon fixed
three hernias. Bob saw the film I didn't, but he said it was a pretty big
piece of mesh needed. My tummy looks like the back of an upholstered chair
with all the little tucks in it. The pain is pretty bad, but I'm staying on
top of it with the percoset. I'll post again in a few days.

FYI Mom came out of surgery yesterday evening and is doing well. She
came home around lunchtime today and Dad was taking care of her. They
gave her some pain meds, which I'm told she really needed. Turned out
there were THREE separate hernias. Yikes. But she is doing well. :)

Thanks all!

  My OA

I have a few problems that I'd like to know if anyone else has had them and
how they dealt with them.

For a long time I have had lots of pain under the two toes next to the big
toe on both feet. I went to a podiatrist this week to have ingrown toenails
cut out and he xrayed my feet. He said I have arthritis in my big toes
(that's news?) and that it has affected the toes next to them and that
causes the pain under my toes when I mash there, and sometimes when I'm
walking it even goes down under the middle of my foot. His suggestion was
that I buy some SAS shoes that cost only $130 per pair, and they are lace
up. With my replaced hip that I have dislocated 4 times, I need slipons and
I don't have $130 for one pair of shoes!

Then I have pain on the front inside of my arms between shoulders and
elbows. My right shoulder hurts, but I have had injections in both
shoulders within the last six weeks and my RD gave me another...

Actually Tom, I rarely have pain in my heel where a heel spur would exist. I
have pain in the mornings, which is very severe, and it is located just
behind the fifth metatarsal and comes all of the way up to my forefoot. It's
all beneath my foot though, right where the fascia is. I don't have any
"bone
pain", it's all where that fascia is.
Actually, I looked at my MRI the other day, and it showed that I have no
calcification anywhere on my foot, which is a relief.
Look people, I am just a very passionate runner, biker, and swimmer. I
wanted
to do the San Fransisco marathon, but I couldn't because this happened. I
wanted to do the iron man in Hawaii, but I couldn't because of this. I am in
pain every day of my life and the doctors, my parents, and now my friends
say
that they can do no more for me. It's been a year since I've ran pain free,
or even since I've walked pain free. I just want this to go away. I don't
think I need doctors, or unlicensed health people. I need a miracle.
Yeah ...

  Re: Storm was wicked but

We saw the storm on the news up here in Bellingham. Those must have been
strong winds to topple over trucks! We have had strong winds here the
past couple of nights, and we still have them this morning. Luckily the
power has stayed on. I did have to bring my patio furniture and plants
in off my balcony as I was afraid the wind would push the table or
chairs into my sliding glass door and break it.

Hope everyone is safe! Fences and things can be fixed :-)

  Knee cap arthritis

Author: Navy

Saw my new orthopedics doctor yesterday. She x-rayed my hip, right
shoulder, and knees, since those were the worst areas. She gave me a shot
in one knee and my hip. They both feel much better now. I like her a lot.
She explains things. I had finished my visit and she was in with my Mom and
I asked the nurse if she had said that a knee replacement wouldn't help me.
The doctor came back in and sat down and explained it to me. Since most of
the arthritis in my knees are behind the knee cap, and they re-use the knee
cap in a replacement, a replacement probably wouldn't help me now. Of
course, they may come up with something to fix that in the future. Then she
went back into my Mom. She told Mom that any time she needed a shot, just
call and she could come in that day. That is...
