kinda long...you are warned....

ok this is stupid and petty especially since the people in question are
33 (myself) and 48..i work with a woman named susan..she is very sweet,
never says anything bad about anything or anyone and is very passive
personality wise....very unlike me....

ok here's the deal..a few weeks ago she got all offended by my language
in the department..i used the words mine and my, or "i got"...other
people use it..they say everything i have is out on the shelf...but i
use it and its a problem....ok so i watch my mouth...i was a big girl
and apologized for offending her...even though i didn't see it as a
valid complaint...

It's one thing to try to keep the peace, but it's another to change who
you are because it doesn't conform to some one's idea of how you should
behave. From your take on it, it does seem like Susan is letting stuff
bother her that apparently isn't an issue for anybody else.

I was thinking that too...she started before me but I've had much more
opportunities given to me by the department manager...options in the
computer that are a trust issue....dotti gives me a lot more stuff to do
because she knows i can do it and do it right....i don't know if that
kind of stuff is bothering her or what.....Management pulls us from the
department to cover other stuff when they are short and I don't get
pulled often....could be that...I've asked but she is very non
confrontational/passive and won't say anything negative or even close to
it...admitting she is jealous or even upset or something would be
considered a negative and she won't speak of it....

You're seeing the symptoms but

I know she has a lot going on physically...cancer survivor only a few
years out and her meds are getting tweaked....

I've encountered this before. What you are describing sounds to me like
you are good at your job, and she sees you as a rival. Take it as a
compliment, and remember who it is at work you need to please.

It aint her.

Please your customers and your boss, and if doing that bothers this
woman, the problem is hers, not yours.

Alex:
Well, the first thing to ask yourself is whether that woman *can even*
be pleased by you. Secondly, you have shown an ability to question
yourself and to do better, so that's commendable. :-)
