Well not really. I'm interested in James T. Kirk, captain of the Enterprise.
Not James T. Kirk, The Wonder Years or James T. Kirk's maiden aunt Fanny
Kirk or whatever. It's a sci-fi movie. It's not about "insights", surely?
It's about a good story and some spectacle, excitement and adventure. TOS,
more clearly than Newtrek, was an adventure series with a charismatic hero
and his friends having adventures (citation: Roddenberry's pitch document).

Rand was a hot blonde with nice legs (citation: Miri) who was after all
originally pitched by Roddenberry as an important character (citations:
Roddenberry's pitch document; early promo photos showing the triumverate of
Kirk/Spock/Rand). I like hot blondes (citation: me). There was in early TOS
a sexual tension between Kirk and Rand (citations: Miri; The Enemy Within;
Balance Of Terror (he hugged his yeoman, on the *bridge*!)) which could make
for a nice subtext in a movie; arguably it's a pity that Rand and thus that
sexual tension were dropped in favour of "girl of the week" subplots. Ergo,
so far as I'm concerned she's welcome in the movie any time. It's
entertainment, after all.

People talk about "getting back to Roddenberry's original vision". Well,
that original vision included a hot yeoman. In a miniskirt.
