Trek XI, Villain News (Spoilers)

Word on th' street is that the villains are Romulans which, if they're
sticking with canon, produces some obvious problems. Personally I'm not much
bothered about canon anyway as I think this needs to be a fresh start.

Interesting thing is (to me) our Romulans are apparently going to look a bit
different. None of the forehead ridges as seen in TNG+ which again I'm in
favour of as I think they looked kind of stupid anyway, and there was no
rational for the Roms, who are just Vulcans living on a different planet
with a different philosophy to have different cranial anatomy. Additionally,
they're apparently also bald. Not so sure about that personally, but at
least it gets rid of the odd idea of all Vulcans having a regulation
hairstyle, which got particularly ridiculous when TPTB decided for no good
reason that the girls should wear it too, especially as early canon Vulcans
didn't e.g. T'Pring, T'Pau, then Saavik. And it made T'Pol look awful.

It'd just be nice to see some aliens in Trek who don't have monolithic
cultures and a identical wardrobes.

That rumor was out there for some time.
As for canon, I do think that is very important.
If they're not going for that they will have to officially announce or admit
it is a new and different canon.

I agree. The ridges were plain ugly.

Not if time travel is involved. It will be a different reality, one in
which Future Romulans go back in time to kill Baby Kirk, etc., but are
thwarted by Future Spock, who followed them back.

Which was a good thing!
Voyager was never my favorite Trek, but Tuvok was one of the better
characters.
I could try to imagine him with a Spock wig, but then I would have to cut my
eyes out with a blunt knife.

I agree. Canon is more important than the needs and desires and
conveniences of the turkeys who are making this latest Trek film.
They better not screw it up.

The cannon thing? If they're rebooting the Trekverse, cannon doesn't
necessarily get thrown out the window, just rewritten a lot.

Get used to it. Time travel is the only way to explain the known cast
and characters of this movie. Well, I suppose it could all be a
Holodeck story, but then Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman would be tarred and
feathered, burned in effigy, and chased out of town by rampaging
Trekkers with pitchforks and torches. :-)
