Well, I'm cautiously optimistic. Aiming for a big splash and a wider
audience, rather than at the diminishing pool of Trekkies, seems wise to me.
The purist argument is also valid; but really a purist argument is an
argument for no more Trek, since "pure" Trek has lost most of its commercial
viability, for the foreseeable future at least. Either they have to leave it
for 20 years until somebody does a revival, or they need to try something
new and daring. Either way, it wouldn't be yet another TNG clone.

So, I'm game. I think this will probably be awful, but it's just possible
that it won't be. It probably has a better chance of being, at least,
entertaining than a sequel to Nemesis; even if it doesn't feel much like
Star Trek to us nerdly types.
