"The challenge of the movie is to be 100 percent true to the fanbase but
also to bring in a whole new group of people who have never seen Trek
before," Alex Kurtzman, who is writing "Star Trek XI" with Roberto Orci,
recently told MTV.
We're not going to start totally from scratch," Orci said. "We want it
to feel like it's updated and of the now. That's actually the
discussions we're having now: How to keep the look of the universe, yet
have it not look like nothing's new. It's tricky."
While Federation types such as Capt. Jean-Luc Picard and Capt. Kathryn
Janeway have preferred to talk before firing phasers, Kurtzman said the
new film will be more attuned to Capt. Kirk of old.
"There will be more action in this movie than any Trek that's preceded
it," Kurtzman said. With more action, apparently there also is some more
money in the coffers to put it together.
"It'll be the biggest one" in terms of budget, Orci said. "The economic
models of the other [films] were very much based on the fans out there
and their purchasing power. With this one, we're going for the broad
audience to bring people into Trek for the first time."

Will Cap'n Kirk sing some of his lines in some sort of MTV music video
style?
Will the Romulans rap?

"Memo to all departments; re: Lt Uhura - She is NOT changed to a
Brazilian, in the new film she will SPORT a Brazilian. Sorry for the
confusion. Love J.J."

OMG, now I'm worried. Apparently these guys think Kirk was a
shoot-first, pistol-packing hothead. WHICH HE WASN'T.

Was that not the same thing Berman/Paramount said about DS9.... and then
VOY.... and the ENT?

More action does not mean a great movie, it just means more action. Write
a good fucking story Paramount.

First Contact was 48million - did well
Insurection was 58 million - not so good
Nemesis was 60miliion - sucked the big one
Is there a trend here?
