British actor Greg Ellis has been cast as Chief Engineer Olsen in
Abrams' new "Star Trek" movie.

Olsen is supposed to be Chief Engineer on the Enterprise before Scotty
takes over (probably serving under Captain Pike). During this era,
young Scotty is depicted as a civilian.

My take:
With Trek XI giving this much attention to the Pike era, I'm starting to
wonder if this is Paramount's new direction for the Trek franchise.
Such as making the next two movies, XII and XIII, about Pike. Or
perhaps they are even thinking about a new TV series featuring Pike.

I always thought Abrams would like to work with the Pike character more
than the Kirk character. That scene in "The Cage," where Pike tells Dr.
Boyce how much he hates his job as captain and wishes he could just
chuck the whole thing, could have been a scene from "Lost" or some other
Abrams drama.
