Nothing new on the ship since yesterday's still image.

The only thing I find a bit odd about this trailer is the
guy with the helmet and the welding rig. You'd think
that by that far in the future work like that would be
done robotically.

In Star Wars that would definitely be true, but in Star Trek any form
of robot or droid seems to be extremely rare in any of the various
cultures (other than Data and his sibling of course).

I'm not talking about droids with personalities, just
the same robotic welders on automated, articulated
arm that you see today in every automobile factory
in the industrialized world because they weld more
consistently than humans. The welder in the trailer
would more realistically be sitting at a control panel
loading CNC programs and monitoring the results.

I know what you meant and it's true in our world, but even those types
of robots have rarely (if ever) been seen or mentioned in Star Trek.
Even when you get to the time of Deep Space Nine they still have what
appears to be living beings doing the external repair work in the
opening sequence.

You'd think it would be done in orbit over the San Franciso Navy Yards
too.

Depends on how one sees the process. Building the
saucer, nacelles, secondar hull, pylons, etc. separately
on the ground and then lifting them into space to put
the modules together would be consistent with the
description in "Making of."

And I'm not so sure there should be much welding in
space, either. Ever watch a modular house being
assembled on its foundation? They bolt whole rooms
together and then just cover the joints.
