Excerpts from an interview with Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in the
upcoming Trek XI:
"I have to go back next week for a couple of effects shots but otherwise
I'm done. Eric's [Bana] only just started". he said about the production.
Pegg says the new Star Trek prequel is a very serious science-fiction
movie. "It's not at all ironic. It's not a jokey take on the original
series. It's a faithful and loving instalment in the ongoing mythology
of the show".
Pegg reveals that there will be sequels to the new movie featuring the
new cast.
"I was slightly worried about tying myself into a franchise for nine
years. It was obviously something to think about, but J.J said, "If the
worst thing that happens is we get to hang out every three years and
have great fun, what's the problem?" I thought that was a great argument".

Sounds like unless Trek XI is a total bomb, there will be a Trek XII
movie around December 2012, and a Trek XIII movie around December 2015.

I think you have to give due consideration to the acting
careers most of these people had prior to TOS, which
was not exactly anything to write home about. It's very
likely that we would not remember any of them today at
all if not for Trek.
If Pegg doesn't become typecast as Scotty, he'll just
end up being best remembered for Shaun of the
Dead anyway.
