Listed among the 2007 winners of the TV Guide Online Video Award was
Star Trek: New Voyages.
As reported at Star Trek: New Voyages, the fan produced show has won a
TV Guide Online Video Award, winning for "Best Sci-fi Webisodes," and
beating out such contenders as Battlestar Galactica and The 4400. The
full list of winners may be seen here.
"I am still shocked, amazed, and humbled that we were one of the four
shows nominated, but to have actually won – what a great thrill," said
executive producer James Cawley. "This award is dedicated to everyone
who has worked so hard to make New Voyages a reality and to all the
loyal fans who voted, because none of this could have happened without you."

It's called "nostalgia." People like to squint and pretend
they're watching the original. If Cawley and co could
get plastic surgery and brain transplant the original actors
into their bodies (or channel their spirits from the hereafter)
that'd be even better.

When they restored the frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in
1979, the artists were careful to imitate Michaelangelo's brush style.
They also imitated his painting right on top of damp fresh plaster in a
few places, not waiting for it to fully dry. It's not because it looks
better to paint on wet plaster. Most likely he was just in a hurry to
finish that day and couldn't wait for the plaster to dry (the painting
was taking longer than anticipated).

let me guess.... a certain canon shattering event will either not
occur or will be technomagically reversed by the end of the episode.
Death is overrated in the Star Trek universe it seems. :-)
All kidding aside, it was good to see Ms Fontana writing Star Trek on
her own terms again. I can't help but wonder though if a remastering
was the idea all along when they threw that particular non-canon turn
of events into the story. Sort of a "lets write it with a HUGE
obvious goof, and then correct it in the Special Edition".
At least they aren't charging money for this, otherwise I'd accuse
them of double dipping. :-)
