The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America have released its
nomination list for this year's Nebula Awards, to be handed out in April
25-27.
The Star Trek New Voyages fan series episode "World Enough and Time,"
starring George Takei as Hikaru Sulu and written by Marc Scott Zicree
and Michael Reaves, is on the nomination list for best script.
In a transporter accident, Sulu spends 30 years on a planet and has a
daughter. Now he is found but saving the ship may mean losing his daughter.
New Voyages executive producer and Kirk actor James Cawley posted at the
TrekBBS several comments about the episode from people on the movie
industry and other. Here they are :
"It's just great!" RAY BRADBURY
"Great production values and an insightful, emotionally resonant
script." JOSS WHEDON, creator BUFFY, THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
"A major accomplishment. It's a knockout." JOSEPH DOUGHERTY,
Emmy-winning writer-producer, THIRTYSOMETHING, SAVING GRACE
"It was cracking! I loved it!" PAUL CORNELL, writer, DR. WHO
"It really is one of the best classic Treks, not a ‘fan' film as the
others have been, but a real episode -- and the best Sulu one done."
MARV WOLFMAN, creator BLADE
The complete list of nominees for Best Script is as follows:
Blink
Children of Men
The Discarded
Pan's Labyrinth
The Prestige
V for Vendetta
World Enough and Time (New Voyages)
[
My take:
It would be a riot if New Voyages managed to beat such bigger-budget
productions as Children of Men and V for Vendetta and win the award.
