Damn't I am glad Avery Brooks was in Deep Space 9

He was one of my favorite actors even BEFORE
he ever wore a Starfleet uniform.

I am glad he played that moral and decent man
who was a Starfleet Commander and Captain.

He greatly enriched the Star Trek genre in my opinion.

Heck he can even sing opera....he is a quintessential Renaissance
Man.

Apart from being obnoxious, an extraordinarily bad actor, and a
lunatic, I agree with you. Not.

What I find interesting is the guys who DIDN'T get the part. I hear Carl
Weathers (yeah, Apollo from Rocky Carl Weathers) auditioned. And even
Richard Dean Anderson (later of Stargate SG1) auditioned. Trying to envision
Ben Sisko as a white guy who looks like MacGyver.

He may be a heck of a guy, but he is/was an AWFUL actor. He chops and
stumbles his words like he's being forced to use a dialect different than
english. No passion, no range of emotions.... I'll stop here.

Mulgrew is no better. Actually, Mulgrew is worse. Consistant in her wooden
and mechanical performance during Voyagers entire run. She gave me the
impression that she was scared crapless to miss a mark or diverge from the
script. Mulgrew and Stewart are almost night and day.

Brooks simulates broad emotions
-- anger, sadness, amusement --
but he doesn't understand what he is doing, so he does it
inappropriately. His acting does indeed suck.
