Greenwood shipshape in new 'Trek'
By Borys Kit and Carly Mayberry

Bruce Greenwood has been cast as Christopher Pike, the Starship
Enterprise's first captain, in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" feature for
Paramount.

The character of Capt. Pike appeared in the original unaired pilot
that Gene Roddenberry created. The pilot was rejected by CBS and then
shown to NBC, which turned it down, though it liked the concept enough
to commission a second pilot. (Only the character of Spock survived
the redevelopment.)

Pike was later weaved back into Star Trek lore as the ship's first
captain and appeared in a two-part episode.

Abrams' "Trek" is expected to start shooting this month. It is
understood that the movie chronicles the early days of the Enterprise
crew.

Greenwood, repped by Gersh and Binder Entertainment, plays two roles
in Todd Haynes' "I'm Not There" and appears in "National Treasure:
Book of Secrets."

First? What about about Robert April?

Roddenberry later disowned TAS, though. It was his show, he gets to
decide if TAS is canon or not. April remains non-canon, unless he is
reference in the new movie (cameo possibility for Shatner?)

Then it was never mentioned that Pike was the FIRST captain, only that he
preceded Kirk. Two can play the canon game.

Could be interesting.
There once was a (non canon of course) novel about the very first adventure
of the ship. With April in command and Jim Kirk as a kid.

They also made the never-seen-before ship in "Charlie X" very similar
to Federation freighter we saw in TAS.

The remastered Amok Time also featured background scenery very
reminiscent of the Vulcan we saw in ST:TMP and ST3:TSFS.
