Erik Karlsson, Ottawa's 1st pick in the draft, in an interview relates
the following:

The strangest question he got came from an unidentified team who
was looking to get a better sense of the teenager's mental make-up.

"They gave me a test. You could take a pill to be 6'-feet tall, 210 lbs and
play like Nick Lidstrom starting tomorrow. But when you turned 40 years
old, you would have a 50-50 chance to live. Would you take the pill?"

After a few moments passed, my curiosity got the better of me.

"How did you answer that question?"

"I told them of course I would like to play like Nick Lidstrom," he replied.
"And I would do whatever it takes to make it."

And now they've traded another draft pick to get an impending UFA.
Brian Rolston to Tampa, conditional 2009 or 2010 pick to Minny.

Think they'll sign him too?

here are the terms:

The Tampa Bay Lightning signed forward Ryan Malone to a seven-year deal
exceeding just over $31 million as first reported on Sportsnet.ca.

Columbus expected to make play for Mo, Tuesday

The Columbus Blue Jackets are expected to make a play Tuesday for
unrestricted free agent centre Brendan Morrison, The Province has learned.

Although they acquired R.J. Umberger at the NHL entry draft, the Blue
Jackets see Morrison as a better playmaking fit to work with hulking winger
Rick Nash and also balance out their top two lines. That projection, coupled
with the Vancouver Canucks not offering term or money in an extension, means
the Pitt Meadows native will likely end his Canuck career with 393 points in
543 games -- unless there's a change in franchise focus.

i've heard the offer will be 3 years for 8 mil. pretty reasonable for mo i'd
say... if he's injured it doesn't count against the cap so no worries there
and when he's healthy he's still a legit center in the nhl. would the nucks
be silly to let him go to a team that they could potentially be fighting for
a playoff spot with? i'm sure he'd rather stay in van... gillis better have
something up his sleave cause other teams are gonna be on the ball for sure.
