I speculated earlier that Lowe being bumped upstairs seemed
more like a push than a promotion. I read this story from their
press conference and it sure looks to me like the new owner
Katz wanted to back away from any animosity Lowe created
by mouthing off and wipe the slate clean.
It also seems to me that that Lowe is going to be involved in
decisions typically the sole perview of the GM. If so, that explains
why no GM hunt and you'd think Tamby took the job, even under
those circumstances, cause he must feel he ain't ever going to
get a GM job. When you're zero for 30.....

Last line, in particular.
(CNN) -- As horrified travelers watched, a Greyhound Canada bus passenger
repeatedly stabbed and then decapitated a young man who was sitting and
sleeping beside him, a witness said Thursday.
Police officers and cars surround the bus near Portage la Prairie, Canada,
on Wednesday night.
"There was a bloodcurdling scream. I was just reading my book, and all of a
sudden, I heard it," Garnet Caton, who was sitting in front of the two men,
said of the Wednesday night incident west of Portage la Prairie in Manitoba.
"It was like something between a dog howling and a baby crying, I guess you
could say," Caton said. "I don't think it will leave me for a while."
Passengers exited the bus, and a trucker who stopped provided wrenches and
crowbars to several of them so they could keep the suspect on the bus until
police came, witnesses told Canadian TV.
The suspect was seized with the help of negotiators, Royal Canadian Mounted
Police Sgt. Steve Colwell said.
He said no formal charges had been filed, and he declined to identify either
the man in custody or the victim, who were among 34 passengers.

...they've followed up last week's big signing (Milbury) with another
good one: Marc Crawford is now on board for 'in game analysis" on
HNIC.
http://www.cbc.ca/arts/story/2008/07/31/crawford-hnic.html
...I can't wait for the first time he notices that there's too many
men on the ice.
"TOO MANY!! TOO MANY!! TOO MANY!!!"
Anyway, I guess it could be worse for HNIC... when foamy posted with
the subject "who's the last person you'd want on HNIC" my initial
answer was "Nick Kypreos"... so when I found out it was Milbury,
things didn't seem so bad. :)
peace...

Sundin remains vague on future
DAVID SHOALTS
July 31, 2008 at 12:04 PM EDT
Mats Sundin held his long-awaited meeting on Thursday with his agents, but
his situation remains as vague as ever.
Sundin, 37, told J.P. Barry and Claes Elefalk of CAA Sports LLC that he
still has not decided if he wants to play one more National Hockey League
season. Barry said Sundin told him that he'll make a decision "sometime in
August".
However, Sundin did say he will make that decision in time to join the team
of his choice for the start of training camp if he decides to play. That
means he will likely decide in the first two weeks of August because teams
want to have their rosters complete by the middle of the month.
Training camps open the second week of September.
In other news, the tide came in and then went out again.

TSN and the Canadian Football League lost a great friend on Thursday
with the passing of Leif Pettersen.
Pettersen joined TSN as a game analyst for the CFL in 1986, the first
year the network began televising CFL games.
"Leif was a great friend to CTV and TSN where, as an expert analyst,
he was an integral part of our commentary teams for more than 20
years," said Rick Brace, President, Revenue, Business Planning and
Sports, CTV Inc. "Always a quick wit and first in on a practical joke,
he was fun to be around and added a great deal to our family. Our
thoughts go out to his wife Lee and his daughters Kate and Ali."
