i looked at the website nhlnumbers.com and they are over the cap. 61.083
mill, 4.383 over the cap space. i see that they have players that have 2 way
contracts like kapanen, 1.25. giroux, 850, parent, 850, and ramholt, 600
which adds up to 3.55 mill which doesn't put them under the cap, and they
still have UFR jason smith, who i believe was their captain.

OK, how do you place fair value on the twins.......

I've been struggling trying to get my mind around the numbers.

Last year combined they had 44 goals and 140 pts. So at first blush
if you don't get that back you lose. But do you really ? Those points,
placing the most emphasis on goals, would preclude trading them
for almost any single player, Zetterberg, Thornton, Vinnie, Kovalchuk,
Gaborik, Heatley etc. Geez, you're losing 40 pts or more would be the
chant of the day.

So how do you reconcile the numbers. The twins are a unit, virtually
none of their points exclude both getting points. Everytime one gets
a goal, the other gets an assist. Instintively I think their production
should be halved to more accurately reflect their value. But that puts
us into Patrick Kane territory.

Any thoughts ? Hep me.

  who's left???

i'm gonna assume we aren't getting sundin and ask, who's left? who should
gillis target, obviously the big names are gone but there are still a couple
guys who can surely help the canucks offensive woes, right? right???

i'll suggest jason williams, a right handed shot and is only 27, a young
ufa.

pros:
Is gifted and savvy. Can put up solid numbers and works well with talented
linemates. Is very useful on the power play and can even play the point.

cons:
Lacks size and supreme skating ability. Must play a grittier game in order
to maximize his potential as a successful top-six forward.

would crack our top 6, which isn't saying much right now.

another one would be david vyborny, could be a good fit with the twins and
sounds like a character guy, we know gillis loves his character, and his
*cough* johnson.

pros:
Has excellent vision on the ice, skates very well and makes quick, sharp
passes. Can score highlight-reel goals. Owns leadership qualities.

  Zherdev to the Rags?

WTF!?

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=242289&lid=sublink01&lpos=headlines_main

"The Rangers sent Fedor Tyutin and Christian Backman to Columbus in exchange
for Nikolai Zherdev and Dan Fritsche."

What are the BJ's thinking? Would they have taken Bieksa? I would have loved
to have seen Zherdev in Vancouver and that doesn't seem like much to give
up.
