What about Jones?

I've kind of been out of the loop, just Philly.com once in a while,
but I haven't heard anything on Jones. Has Holmgren either signed
Jones or at least tendered a qualifying offer sheet? Jones is one of
those guys who can easily be overlooked but for the most part has
played solid defense for the Flyers and has been one of the bright
spots on the Flyers defense. Not very flashy but his +/- speaks for
itself. If Holmgren lets Jones slip away he's making a huge mistake
IMHO.

He signed a 2 year $5.5 million deal. Averages $2.75 million per year.
Mistake not getting him resigned earlier in the year. With all the
shit ass money being thrown around out there in free agency they had
to overpay to sign him. Honestly, I would rather he just gone on his
way than pay him that much. IMO, he's not that good (to warrant that
salary).

Homer signed Jones I think just after midnight before free agency kicked in.
Some believe he was overpaid at I believe $2.75 mil but considering some of
the outrageous other contracts thrown out there (Jeff Fingers) it was a
sensible deal. Jones was inconsistent during the season but did improve as
the season went on and played well in the playoffs. He'll be a good 4-5
d-man and is worth the money.

I think the Jones salary indicates that the Flyers think he can be top
4 D-man. If he improves his defensive play consistency (which should
happen - he's young), it'll be a good signing for a solid, young,
mobile 2-way defenseman.

Actually he is/has been playing in the 3-4 slot and has been doing a
nice job. I guess it's easy to under-value him after seeing him come
up from the Phantoms. IMO I wouldn't exactly call him a mobile
defensemen, but I would call him solid with some passing skills. His
forte is his positioning, good decisions, and his unlikeliness to
panic.
