HARRELL NAMED TO 2006 ALL-MAYDAY TEAM
Senior defensive tackle's season ended with arm injury in Air Force
game

Jan. 1, 2007

Senior Tennessee defensive tackle Justin Harrell was among 25 players
selected to the 2006 All-Mayday Team, which was announced by ESPN
analyst Mark May throughout Capital One® Bowl Week on the all sports
network. The All-Mayday Team is a squad comprised of college
football's "Toughest of the Tough" and includes each position on the
offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
May and the College Gameday crew announced the players
position-by-position through the week long coverage of the college
bowl games on ESPN

Harrell's suffered a ruptured biceps tendon prematurely ending his
season in the Air Force game. As the Vol prepared for Florida, he
informed the UT coaching staff of his desire to play one more game
before undergoing surgery on his injured arm.

Harrell took the field with the captains prior to the Florida game
Sept. 16 and also started along the Vols' defensive front. The
preseason All-America selection totaled three tackles while seeing
action in all four quarters.

"He put himself at risk to play one more game for us," senior
defensive tackle Turk McBride said. "It's one of the more amazing
things I've seen an individual do to pick up a team. To see him out
there was amazing for me."

The Florida game marked the final time that No. 92 will ever be worn
by a Tennessee football player, as the number was retired in 2005 in
honor of former Vol Reggie White.

Harrell finished his 35-game career with 82 total tackles, 14 tackles
for loss, four sacks and two interceptions.
