They actually need both, but they could bypass the DT and go for Adam
Carriker. He's one of the few players that physically measures up to
his stats and he's a beast at DE. He can play between the tackle and
guard and straight off the end. He's quick and according to Fox's NFL
Draft report, lost in the hype of the more notable DE's. Here's some
of the comments from Fox and Draft Daddy.
Fox:
Three Senior Bowl players that'll likely be drafted after the first
round, but will be outstanding...
1) Auburn OG Ben Grubbs. He's playing his way into the first round.
This isn't a great year for guards, but he's turning into a must-have
player. He'll be a top run blocker. 2) Nebraska DE Adam Carriker.
Possibly lost in the shuffle among the top end prospects, he played
like a first-rounder all week in Mobile, but might be one of the top
10-picks of the second round. 3) Cal DT Brandon Mebane. He's just a
football player. In a lousy year for defensive tackles, someone will
fall in love with him and do whatever it takes to get him in the
second round. He's been great this week at getting into the backfield.

He was his usual complimentary self...Did not mention T.O
had only but praise for McNabb...and is getting married this week.
So much for the gay rumors...

Jay Glazer / FOXSports.com

The Dallas Cowboys' search for a successor to Bill Parcells has led
them back to one of their former assistant coaches.
The Cowboys have called for and received permission to interview 49ers
offensive coordinator Norv Turner for their head coaching post,
FOXSports.com has learned. Niners coach Mike Nolan told FOXSports.com
Wednesday night that he was very hopeful of keeping Turner, but
expected Dallas to come calling. That call came Thursday morning.
Turner has been a head coach in Washington and Oakland after a
successful stint as Jimmy Johnson's offensive coordinator in Dallas at
the start of the last decade.
Dallas has already hired an offensive coordinator in Miami Dolphins
quarterbacks coach and former Cowboys quarterback Jason Garrett. There
is some thinking that Dallas would hire Turner to groom not only
quarterback Tony Romo, but to help prepare Garrett to eventually become
the head coach in Dallas.

Remember Rice and Taylor breaking those 5 yard quick slants for long
gainers and touchdowns? I hardly ever see that play any more. Seems that
with the right receivers, it would be just as effective.

Brunner's Blog: Wednesday print
Todd Brunner
College area scout Todd Brunner continues with his Brunner's Blog, all
week long from Mobile, Alabama where the entire 49ers coaching and
scouting staff have converged for the annual Senior Bowl.
I get up at 6:30 every morning but today I skipped my usual run that I
take. Since I knew I was going to come back to the room after the
second practice, I figured I can run then so I just took the morning
to lay in bed for a little bit and watch some television. I watched
SportsCenter and Mike and Mike in the morning on ESPN and just caught
up with the rest of the sports world.
Now, IÂ’m sort of wishing that I had already gone for my run so it was
out of the way but after this second South practice, IÂ’ll head back to
our hotel and get that done.
The crowds for practice have definitely thinned here. I donÂ’t know if
thatÂ’s because of the cold or what. In the Northeast, we consider this
golfing weather.

INSTANT 49ers
Matt Maiocco heads into his 13th season covering the 49ers. He has
reported for The Press Democrat since 2000. He is a three-time winner
of Pro Football Writers of America awards. Maiocco has written two
books, "Roger Craig's Tales from the 49ers Sideline" and "San
Francisco 49ers: Where Have You Gone?" His blog, "Instant 49ers,"
gives readers an all-access pass to the 49ers.
I'd like to clarify something I wrote yesterday about Donnie
Henderson, who interviewed for the defensive coordinator's job. Nolan
said he has not closed the door on anybody as a candidate for the
position. Henderson has a unique, confrontational personality that
Nolan acknowledges would not work with every staff. He coached
together with Henderson in Baltimore, and they did not always see
eye-to-eye.
"The dynamics are different," Nolan said. "That was Baltimore and
everybody knew Donnie and understood Donnie. I'd be bringing him in
and not everybody knows him. He's a good coach, but I have to be
careful with the dynamics of the staff."

Language barrier slows down some more than others
quietly and discreetly made my way into the back of the room. There,
I sat dumbfounded. I didn't understand a word anybody was saying.
"Now, you know what the players are going through," 49ers coach Mike
Nolan said later. "There were 22 players in that room, and those 22
probably speak 10 different languages. In just a couple days, they all
have to learn a new language."
