OT: College Football Solution

I was a bit bored today. Here is what college football should (but
won't) do:

1. Scale back the regular season to 11 games.

2. Establish a 16 team playoff field, seedings based on a system
similar to the one they have now for the BCS.

3. First round games are played on the home fields of the top eight
seeds. First seed plays 16, etc.

4. First round losers join everybody else in the pool of available
teams for the second and third tier bowl games.

5. First round winners are paired off in the current BCS big four
games plus two more.

6. Next round is played in two BCS bowls determined on a rotating
basis.

7. Final is played in one of the Big Six BCS Bowls, determined on a
rotating basis.

Flawless, is it not?

1. Create a national network of schools specifically for football...call it
"Football University". This network would work similarly to state level
colleges such as SUNY, VACC, etc. These schools will admit the obvious,
academics takes a backseat. This allows them to concentrate specifically on
recruiting high school players who we all know have no aptitude for anything
other than football. Scholastic colleges can get back to emphasising
scholastics.

2. Adopt a system similar to free agency so that players could be
transferred from one school to another more easily. This will eliminate the
dynastic advantage some colleges currently hold...thus forcing them to
concentrate more on coaching and schemes to win rather than the fact that
they attract all the talent.
