NFL spokesman: "New Orleans to be named champion"

The NFL issued a press release earlier today naming the New
Orleans Saints as the champion of the 2006-07 football season.
According to league spokesman Edward "Eddie" Gein,
"We had originally planned on going with the Bears, and we even
set up a focus group to test out our tentative theme, which centered
around the old SNL skit about 'da Bears'. Unfortunately, (Indianapolis
coach) Tony Dungy once again turned down our offer to appear, and that
ruined our plan to showcase two African American coaches going head to
head. Apparently Coach Dungy feels the whole 'championship' thing
cheapens us as professionals, and he also told us that he admires Woody
Allen's refusal to participate in the Oscars."
Taking its cue from the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena, the
NFL has "themed" its Super Bowls going back to the post 9-11 "We're All
Patriots", to last years, "Win One for the Thumb for the Chin and the
Bus." Gein revealed that this year's theme would be titled "Happy Time
Mojo in Chocolate Town", and stated that he was confident that this
year's theme would help boost sales of officially licensed NFL
products.
"We're relying on the whole Katrina guilt thing, plus we're
confident that a lot of illiterate Steeler fans will mistakenly ...

Subtle whining about the officiating in last year's game noted.

I didn't see anything subtle about the whining about the whining.

Nope, not at all, in any way, shape, or form... try again.

What ESPN.com columnist Bill Simmons had to say today about
thinking the NFL is rigging the season for the Saints:

I can't believe nobody mentioned the Saints were called for only three
penalties last weekend. The conspiracy theory that the NFL wants the
Saints to be in Miami for Super Bowl XLI -- starting with the NFL's
forcing Houston to take Williams over Bush, forcing the Dolphins to
sign Culpepper over Brees and forcing 31 other teams to repeatedly
pass on Marques Colston
-- just keeps getting stronger and stronger.
Now it's just "completely asinine" instead of "criminally far-fetched
and absurd."

Thank you for explaining how that works. Puts it all into perspective now.
Good to know that these things are decided before hand. If I read you
correctly, the NFL has went the way professional wrestling. Decide the
winner based on potentional profit from merchandise sales.
