On the 7th day, LT has already rested

By Kevin Acee

November 13, 2006

CINCINNATI – LaDainian Tomlinson continued to tear up the record book
yesterday, and it turns out that his coaches get some of the credit for
his recent burst in production.

It has nothing to do with play-calling on Sundays.

In the week prior to Tomlinson beginning this current streak of three
consecutive 100-yard/three-touchdown games, coordinator Cam Cameron and
running backs coach Clarence Shelmon suggested the Chargers give
Tomlinson fewer reps during practices.

Since then, Tomlinson has rushed for 183, 172 and 104 yards and scored
three, three and four touchdowns.

“I think it's allowed me to be a little more fresh,” said Tomlinson,
adding that he might feel as good as he ever has ever after nine games.

He looks it. Yesterday concluded just the second three-game stretch of
100-yard games in his six seasons.

Great article. Thanks for sharing.

I thought seeing Phillips do the "Lights Out Dance" was his response to
a kick-ass play and in retribution for Geathers and Johnson's lame
attempt at imitating Merriman earlier.

GO BOLTS!!!

Well, we'll know for sure next weekend in the Denver game, but it sure
looks like he's got more energy and determination then he did the first
couple games. The only real problem is that LT has been consistently
shut down at the RB position by good defenses his whole career. So even
if he's back to top form it may not be enough to win us those games.
The O-line will tell the real tale in that game although LT will still
contribute in other ways as usual.

Sorry to do this to you PBDepot (reply to myself), but I realized that
my argument a week or two ago did suggest that LT was unlikely to regain
his earlier brillance. Kurgen and Randall did not take that position.
When I looked at the yards-per-carry averages of HOF running backs from
the last 20 or so years, only the top four had sustained brillance.
Maybe LT will end up in that grouping. The others had most of their best
years within their first six years in the league.

Yup. It's good to see Lt looking like LT again.
