Anyone else watching the new series Friday Night Lights? I usually find
sports-themed movies/TV to be a bit hokey but I'm enjoying this one so
far. I like the format of each episode following the team through the
week leading up to a Friday night game. I read the book and saw the
movie version and I think the TV series will end up being better than
the movie... certainly allows for more plot and character development.

Its a little edgier and covers football instead of basketball, but it
reminded me that I used to watch another high school sports show when I
was growing up
-- The White Shadow. Anyone remember that one?

I'm watching, but the jury's out, for me. I haven't made up my mind yet
if it's working. The injury to the starting QB and the unsung back up
reminds me a little too much of Varsity Blues, and I'll wait to see if
they veer away from the more obvious cleches of the genre.

Best, R.E.F.

Yes. The DVD is worth buying just for the Chick Hearn appearances.

The book was good so I thought I'd give the TV series a chance by
watching the first couple episodes. I agree with REF that the QB's
paralysis in the first episode pushed the dramatics a bit too hard, but
I suspect it was because the producers felt they had to get the viewer's ...
