Darren McFadden Q&A
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, April 26th, 2008 at 4:02 pm

Darren McFadden's conference call with local media:

Q: Were you pretty sure this would be the team for you?

McFadden: For me, I really didn't know what to expect. I heard a lot of talk
about New York, I heard a lot of talk about Oakland too. For me, I was
sitting back and I was going to be happy with my name being called.

Q: Lane Kiffin said he called you this morning, what was that conversation
like?

McFadden: It's just a great feeling, he told me if I'm there at No. 4 pick,
we was going to call my name. And right before he got off the phone he said
he hoped to be talking to me again soon. It was something I was very proud
of. I'm very happy, to be able to go to Oakland.

Q: What do you know about Lane Kiffin's offense and how it might be a fit
for you?

So what I took away from this interview is he referred to himself in the
third person a lot, he's a Donko fan, he doesn't feel there's anything he
needs to work on, and he isn't going to be content as a backup. He said the
word "I" 57 times and didn't say a whole lot about teamwork.

*Used* to be a Donko fan, had enough sense to not mention it to Mr Davis,
already listening to Tom Rathman, and doesn't want to sit.

Hope it works out.

Well, there ya' go. Good point. We got the RB no one can touch. Heh.

Sez who? He's Superman, dammit.

Yet you turn around and jock Dorsey.

Ummmmm... He's from Arkansas. I'm *sure* she's gonna' keep him
*straight* ...

Heh.

we gonna' do now? IAAF

Good post, Claude.

I'm talking about interviews and psyche, not field skills--proven or
otherwise. I suppose I am foolish to hope for a guy that puts personal
accolades behind a team-first mentality. Maybe for DMc it stems from a
fucked up childhood, a crack whore for a mom, and brothers and sisters that
range from 14 to 40. Not knowing where your next meal is coming from or
whether there will be running water when you wake up in the morning is a
tough thing to go through, I'm almost certain. Basic survival instincts
needed on a daily basis and engrained very early on probably supersedes the
team mentality. I just don't think it bodes well for a team that already
has had problems with superstar mentalities.

I didn't mean to imply you were. I am and I won't waste my money on this
pick.

O, that it had bought them a couple more wins! Just one more would have put
McFadden in New York.

The secondary has. The front seven have not.
