Rhodes on being one and done
A transcript from former Raiders RB Dominic Rhodes' appearance on "Movin'
The Chains" on SIRIUS NFL Radio with Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwan just landed in
my inbox.

Here are some nuggets from it:

On being released Monday by the Raiders following the team's selection of RB
Darren McFadden in last weekend's NFL Draft:

Dominic Rhodes: "When I restructured my deal it was all in [unintelligible]
if they drafted Darren McFadden I was like, 'Listen, I'll restructure but
it's got to be to where if y'all draft him I can leave, you know. Y'all let
me go.' That's kind of how it went. They kept their word and they let me get
a chance to go somewhere else and get my opportunity. I know they like Mike
Bush. They just re-signed Justin [Fargas] and I didn't want to have to deal
with what I dealt with last year because I know I can play and I know
somebody can use someone like me.

Seems like this is more the coaching staffs job.

At any rate, Rhodes came from winning a SB to a team that has won 19
games in 5 years, WTF did he expect? You don't change things
overnight. It even took St. Gruden three years.

No wonder your pal Al gave us Dorsey on a silver platter. In his remarks,
Rhodes talks more like a paranoid meth addict than a running back. He's
blaming the team and staff for letting him down after he threw the team
under the bus by getting himself suspended for 4 games. That sort of denial
doesn't make it sound like his substance abuse recovery is progressing very
well.

The players know they can go over the heads of the coaches to bitch to Al,
and he will listen and not discourage them from doing this.

They know Al is a players owner.

Why do you think so many coaches lose control of the team?

While I may have a few personnel gripes about Al, this is my biggest
complaint. Okay, he won't give the HC any personnel authority, fine. But fer
chrissakes, you gott agive him absolute coaching authority.

Which Al won't do.

He was suspended before we signed him.

This much is true... which is both a blessing and a curse. It helps us
pick up FA players, and keep quality plyers on board, but it also hurts
us getting quality veteran coaches.

Uhhh moron... what did the Allen trade have to do with you getting
Dorsey?

You got Dorsey because your team was horrible last year... the same
reason the Raiders got McF.

If you think losing Allen is in any way a positive... you need to check
yourself. You lost your best player.

Draft choices are always a crap shoot. Good luck.
