for the youth group, while on Saturday we opened up for Free Indeed and
Vocal Union. All of this occurred at Broken Arrow, OK.

McFadden coming to grips with problem

* By JASON JONES, Sacramento Bee

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Oakland Raiders running backs coach Tom Rathman
fumbled just seven times in a nine-year career at fullback that included
864 total rushes and receptions. Rookie running back Darren McFadden
fumbled 23 times in three seasons at Arkansas.

Guess what Rathman is going to be a stickler about with his prized pupil?

Extra emphasis is being placed on McFadden's ball security. It's a
common theme with rookies, but when a player shows a propensity for
fumbling, that player can expect to constantly be reminded about holding
onto the ball.

Raiders running backs fumbled five times last season, and the team has
too many plans for McFadden for him to sit because of fumbles.

"Ball security, it's the heartbeat of our offense," Raiders coach Lane
Kiffin said. "We turn the ball over and we're not going to win any
games. It's very important with (McFadden), but as you look at his
fumbles, over half were at quarterback or on kickoff returns. There
aren't as many as it looks right away when you look purely at a running
back, but it's something we're looking at."

Penn State's Hahn signs with Raiders

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., May 12, 2008 – Former Penn State running back Matt
Hahn has signed with the National Football League’s Oakland Raiders, who
announced the signing last Friday, just prior to the team’s rookie
mini-camp.

Hahn joins five other Nittany Lions that played during the 2007 season
that were drafted or have been signed by NFL teams. The Dix Hills, N.Y.
product joins former Nittany Lion standout tight end Tony Stewart on the
Raiders’ roster. Stewart joined the Raiders prior to last season, his
eighth in the NFL.

Hahn's brother, Kevin, is a redshirt freshman running back for the
Nittany Lions.

Hahn was a consistently productive runner, receiver and blocker for the
Nittany Lions from 2004-07. In the midst of having one of the best games
of his career, his senior season came to an abrupt end...

McFadden Is Good, Raiders Want Him Better

No matter how good Darren McFadden was in college, he's got some things
to work on now that he's hit the NFL.

Chief among the concerns of Oakland Raiders coaches was Mcadden's
tendency to fumble. He had 23 fumbles over three seasons with Arkansas,
so the Raiders are looking to remedy that in mini-camp, the Sacremento
Bee reports.

Coach Lane Kiffin did tell reporters that McFadden's ball security
issues aren't as bad as they look on paper. McFadden fumbled more often
on kickoff returns (where he never looked comfortable in college) and
when lined up at quarterback, taking a snap from the Shotgun.

"Ball security, it's the heartbeat of our offense," Raiders coach
Lane Kiffin said. "We turn the ball over and we're not going to win any
games. It's very important with (McFadden), but as you look at his
fumbles, over half were at quarterback or on kickoff returns. There
aren't as many as it looks right away when you look purely at a running
back, but it's something we're looking at."

Enticing Schilens has plenty to prove

Just as coaches and owners have project players, so do fans.

For the faithful Oakland Raiders following, this year’s fan favorite may
be the team’s seventh-round draft choice, wide receiver Chaz Schilens.
Standing 6-foot-4, 208 pounds with a 43-inch vertical, Schilens is a
player who opens eyes just on paper.

And on YouTube.

Highlight reels and measurables aside, the young wideout does have some
numbers to back up the hype. A three-year starter at San Diego State,
the 22-year-old caught 103 passes in his Aztec career for 1,603 yards
and seven touchdowns. Last season, Schilens averaged over 19 yards per
grab, and finished off his senior season with 215-, 174-, and 106-yard
games, respectively.

Matched up against the rest of the ‘08 receiver class, though, Schilens
knows he still has a lot to prove.

Raiders sign former Buc; minicamp update

Author: The Shadow

By: David White

The Raiders agreed to terms with free-agent defensive end Greg Spires,
an NFL source said Saturday.

He's a 10-year veteran who started five of the past six seasons with the
Buccaneers, including their Super Bowl XXXVII victory over the Raiders
in 2002.

Spires missed six games last season with a calf injury. He's considered
undersized for the position at 6-foot-1, but has used above-average
speed to pick up 39.5 career sacks.

In a perfect world, Spires will have enough in the tank to complement
left end Derrick Burgess just as he did Simeon Rice in Tampa Bay.
Worst-case, he'll make defensive ends like Jay Richardson and Kalimba
Edwards earn their roster spot.

The Raiders have hoped to find a veteran free agent (without spending a
ton) to replace free-agent departure Chris Clemons, who had eight sacks
last year.

Raiders' Bush is fired up and ready to go

BUSH JUST WANTS A CHANCE TO SHOW HE CAN STILL PLAY
By Steve Corkran
Bay Area News Group

Pity the defender who crosses paths with Raiders running back Michael
Bush for the first time. Bush is a load at 6-foot-2 and 245 pounds, with
a ball in his hands and the goal line in sight.

He's also ready to show what he can do after returning from leg surgery.

"I've been telling people that my season starts the first preseason
game," Bush said Saturday, in reference to the Raiders' exhibition
against the 49ers on Aug. 8.

Little has gone as expected for Bush the past two years. He last played
in Louisville's season opener against Kentucky in 2006. He suffered a
broken right leg and missed the rest of the season.

The injury required a second operation just before the 2007 NFL draft.
Bush fell from a projected first-round prospect to the fourth round. The
Raiders, loaded with running backs, kept Bush out of practice for most
of last season; he didn't play in any games.

Running back watched Oakland pick McFadden fourth in draft

David White, Chronicle Staff Writer

No one can blame Michael Bush if he tunes out the NFL draft in its
entirety next year.

As a college prospect last year, he watched his stock plummet into Day 2
before the Raiders chose him in the fourth round.

As a returning player this year, he saw his depth-chart status
potentially skydive when the Raiders picked Arkansas running back Darren
McFadden with the fourth overall selection.

For a moment, it looked like Bush's career in Oakland was done before it
really started.

"Yeah, I watched it," Bush said during the Raiders' rookie minicamp,
which ended Sunday. "At first, I was like, Why do we need another back?
It kind of bothered me, but it didn't because he can help us.

"Anytime you can bring in a new weapon on the team, that can help us."

Go ahead and add Bush on that list. He isn't exactly new; he simply
feels that way. Bush spent the past three days showing his surgically
repaired right leg is dandy as can be expected, as well it should be by now.
