A meeting of top state officials is scheduled for noon this afternoon
to discuss hurricane Ike related issues. One thing that is being
looked at closely is the Arkansas Texas ballgame on Saturday. Austin
is designated as an official evacuation center for gulf coast
residents and officials fear that this could create a nightmare
scenario if and when evacuations f begin because of the number of out-
of-town folks already in Austin for the ballgame and the ensuing lack
of available motel rooms. State officials have a;ready contacted
University officials about this concern and there is speculation that
the ballgame could be called off as early as Thursday depending on the
